Arcanist is a class from Beyond the Supernatural. They had some cool features other classes lacked.
- pg 94 impervious to PPE vampirism like nega-psychics
- pg 97-8 at 7th level they could create new spells if they have ME17 / MA14 (Through the Glass Darkly sort of opened this up to all OCCs without level or attribute requirements though). This used to give permanent penalties or bonuses!
